Festival of the Arts Week 1986
In 1986, the entire Caulfield Grammar School Community took part in the phenomenally successful Arts Week from Monday 28 April to Saturday 3 May. A series of daily concerts over the three campuses featured student ensembles and guest performers reflecting the diversity of arts and music, poetry, and dance thriving across the School. Nurtured by dedicated staff and music tutors and the support of the Caulfield Grammar School “Society for the Arts: and newly formed “Friends of Music”.
On Friday 2 May, Mr. L Lawrence, Director of the Victorian College of the Arts opened the new Wheelers Hill Creative Arts Centre. Two original performances, “Genesis” and “Changes” were previewed. The media and arts students of Wheelers Hill campus, directed by Miss Christine Collins, paraded costumes, designed and made by themselves, reflecting the life in the year 2000. Now some 37 years later, it is great to look back at this pivotal week and acknowledge its legacy; a thriving curriculum in 2023 of art, music, dance and theatre across the school, and certain knowledge that past alumni are working in the performing arts or simply singing in a choir, creating art of photography, or playing and instrument. Priceless!
Stop Before you Toss – Growing The Malvern Grammar School Collection
Recently, two rare copies of the inaugural Malvern Church of England Grammar School magazine, The Malvern Mitre, from October 1924 and August 1925 were donated by the Lauritz Family along with some 1950’s Speech Day programs and history books. When Caulfield Grammar School affiliated with Malvern Grammar School, limited publications, programs and photographs were exchanged. With a trend for de-cluttering in vogue, please consider before you toss you could donate – classwork, photos, programs for Speech Day, badges etc. Simply make contact via the details below.
